Oakland Schools was recently presented with the 2017 Safety is No Accident Award from SET SEG’s MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool – one of only five educational entities in the state to garner this recognition.

MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool is a member-owned, risk-sharing pool that provides coverage and services tailored to Michigan’s public education community. It is an entity of SET SEG, a Lansing-based company that provides coverage and benefit services to more than 550 school districts, intermediate school districts and community colleges across the state.

“We are very proud to have received this award,” said Oakland Schools Superintendent Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson. “This recognition is a testament to the best practice standard followed by all of our facilities and operations crews who ensure Oakland Schools has a well–maintained campus. We are dedicated to making sure all employees and visitors of Oakland Schools feel safe while here.”

Oakland Schools earned the award because of its commitment to the upkeep of school grounds, leading to a low number of accident and injury claims in recent years. The Intermediate School District is also being credited for having adopted recommended safety measures in a timely manner.

“Oakland Schools is cooperative and willing to go the extra mile to stay safe,” said SET SEG Loss Control Consultant Darlene Wood. “They do an outstanding job with the upkeep of their facilities and grounds. They ensure the safety of their staff and students by employing a preventive maintenance program for their buildings and vehicles, implementing regular training for employees and following standards for best practices.”

Oakland Schools has been a member of the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool since 1996.
